Frequently Asked Questions
Is Car Insurance Compulsory In Singapore?
Yes. Under Singapore law, at least Third-Party Only coverage is required before you can drive your vehicle on the road.
What Is A No-Claim Discount (NCD) And How Does It Work?
NCD is a reward for safe driving. Each year you don’t make a claim, your NCD increases, giving you a discount on your renewal premium. With an NCD Protector add-on, your discount stays intact even if you make one claim.
For more information, click here.
Does My NCD Carry Over If I Switch Insurer?
Yes, your No Claim Discount (NCD) can be transferred to your new policy when you switch insurer. However, Protected NCD is not transferrable to another insurer. So, if you had an at-fault accident/claim and your 50% NCD was maintained only because of NCD Protector, you’ll need to declare your NCD as 20% when switching insurer.
If you’re unsure of your NCD, you can select 0% or contact us at 6221 2111 (Mon–Fri, 9am–8pm; Sat, 9am–3pm).
How Can I Reduce My Premium?
You can save by:
- Choosing a higher excess
- Maintaining a clean driving record
- Selecting only the add-ons you need
What Is Excess And How Does It Affect My Cover?
Excess is the amount that you have to pay towards your claim. At Budget Direct Insurance our standard policy excess for cars is S$600 (before prevailing GST). You can choose to reduce or increase this amount depending on your claim experience and budget.
For car you can reduce your excess right down to zero. This will increase your premium but means you pay less excess if you have to make a claim. You can also increase your excess up to S$3,000 (before prevailing GST) - which means you pay less premium.
Can I Insure More Than One Driver Under The Same Policy?
Yes, You can name more than one driver under your policy. Some insurers offer coverage for any authorised driver, though restrictions and conditions may apply.
For more information on Driver Plans offered by Budget Direct Insurance, click here.
How Do I Make A Claim And What Documents Are Required?
Can I Choose My Own Workshop For Repairs?
Yes, depending on your insurer and policy coverage. Some insurers allow you to repair your car at a workshop of your choice by paying an additional premium, while others require you to use their authorised network for repairs.
What Happens If My Policy Lapses Or I Don’t Renew On Time?
Driving without valid insurance is illegal in Singapore. Always renew before the expiry date to stay protected.
